The Legacy of Our Sanctuary’s Founders

Sanctuary founders

Jacq and Rob

Originally from New Zealand, Rob moved to Victoria, BC, Canada, where he built a life as a bartender and small business owner. His journey intertwined with Jacq’s, a local high school teacher and waitress. In 2011, life threw a curveball with Rob’s Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. Unyielding, they ventured beyond, their love for animals guiding them. After a three-year Thai sojourn, they settled in Port Barton, Palawan, Philippines in 2015, a place that marked the beginning of their marital journey and a deeper quest. They tirelessly served the canine community, providing food, medical care, and organizing annual free sterilization events.

The pandemic highlighted the dire need, igniting a fiercer resolve. Over 40 dogs had vanished, with many more languishing in hunger. Their response was a sanctuary, a haven that Rob’s benevolent spirit continues to permeate. His legacy thrives in each wagging tail and contented purr, an enduring testament to a life of love, resilience, and selfless service. Through Jacq’s continued endeavors and the community’s support, Rob’s compassionate spirit continues to cradle the paws and hearts he touched, in a sanctuary that stands as a beacon of hope amidst life’s turbulent tides.

Our mission is to be a beacon of hope for abandoned or street-dwelling dogs and cats, extending a sanctuary that reverberates with care, compassion, and the promise of a better life. We stand committed to providing sustenance, shelter, medical attention, and sterilization services, ensuring a nurturing passage towards love-filled homes. As we avidly work towards a happier, healthier pet community, education on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare remains at the core of our outreach. Our resolve to rescue and rehabilitate is as enduring as the paws we tenderly care for, believing fervently that every animal is deserving of a second chance.

Looking ahead, we envision a decade where our footprint expands across Palawan, with sanctuaries dotting the island, each a haven of love and care. Our action plan is robust— marked by an aggressive sterilization initiative aimed at bringing the dog and cat population to a sustainable harmony. With a solid blueprint in place and a team that’s growing in dedication and expertise, we’re on a poised trajectory towards saving thousands of lives. Each day is a step closer to transforming this vision into a reality that resonates with the joyful barks and contented purrs of countless furry lives redeemed
and cherished.
